Some Triumphs and Some Defeats

The Zoetrope, as groovy as it is, won't be happening.  I thought we'd be able to make some kits out of it, or do a workshop in building them, but they're just too labor intensive and I couldn't get the wobble out of the spinning barrel.  Such is the life of a mad scientist.  If anyone has any suggestions for getting that thing to spin with an a.c. motor, I'd like to hear it.

But, on a high note, out of the Zoetrope came the desk lamp that I made to light the image of the horses.  That'll be the next project, since everyone thought that was so cool.

Also, we're gearing up for the Claremont Community Foundation party which happens on March 24th.  We'll be there cutting up wine and beer bottles for people to bring home as souvenirs - Bottle Gardens and drinking glasses.

Drop by on Sunday, March 11th for a tea tasting.  Tiffany, from Boutique Teas will be on hand from 11:00am to 1:00pm, offering samples of her loose leaf teas that we'll be carrying right here in the store.

Excited about our new line

Padua Farms keeps on growing.  Right now we've got 8 different soap lines, a lip balm and perfume.  It's all natural and made locally, with love.  I just spent the day photographing and putting them all on line.  It takes a fair amount of time to get that done, while chatting with customers and taking resumes for our new job opening.  I can hardly wait until we've got an employee to get things cooking around here.  It will give me lots of time to work on more projects for our business and to complete a giant project I started over a year ago.  But for now, here are some pictures of the new soaps.

I just finished the zoetrope, too.  It still needs something to correct the wobble, and I wish it spun a tad faster in order smooth out the animation.  But, I think with an axle, bearing and some sprockets, I may be able to kill two birds with one task.  

We'll see.

 

We were just informed...

Busy Bees!

Sometimes it all just comes down in buckets.  We had to make a list of all that needs to be handled within the next few weeks.

First, we met a great girl whose store we've been stalking on facebook ever since we opened our doors.  Marci, owner of Co-Op28 in Los Feliz paid us a visit last week.

She's super cool and we clicked instantly.  We're planning on taking some of our classes to her store studio space in early spring, so we'll keep you posted.

Meanwhile, we're gearing up for the main event here in Claremont, the Community Foundation Party Parade.  This series of month long fundraisers puts a lot of green in the city's charity coffers, and we're proud to be hosting the March 24th party.   If you remember, we mentioned a little demo we did for the party planners...and they just loved it.

It's going to be a fun night, and...

...it's already SOLD OUT!  Neat-0.  

For the time being, I'm still trying to wrap my head around my current project, something I hope to share in a workshop within the next month or two...

Yep, you guessed it (or not) - a motorized Zoetrope.  Isn't it groovy?  And, you can change out the artwork for whatever you can draw! 

I'm also going to incorporate this little nifty tool I found last week.  

There's just something intriguing and clever about it.  I think the whole rig will be super special.  

Udates, updates...

First, we'd like to proudly introduce our new line of skin care products from Padua Farms.  All of is is locally made with natural ingredients.

And, along with our groovy class roster, we're adding a few new hands-on projects to the mix:

Ginger Beer and Kombucha, and...

Can't really say, but it's going to be super cool and dazzling!  Stay tuned!

The Chandelier

Months in the making, we finally got this up at our neighbor's place, the Packing House Wine Merchants.  It's a 28 bottle chandelier with two magnum sized pendant lamps over the two tables.  It was really fun to put together.  You can make a pendant lamp just like one of those in one of our classes.  Once you learn how, you can go to town and put together any sort of piece you can dream up!

Cards cards and more cards

A lot of people have been taking advantage of our sweet card making offer of only $5.50.  You can basically do anything you can dream up on a card.  Here are some of the things people have been doing, with the help of our rubber stamps and die-cut machine.  The machine can generate over 500 images and fonts in layers of colored paper.  All you have to do is select them and glue them down.  The machine does the rest!
